One name, two narratives
Tanis shows how strongly popular culture can shape our relationship with an archaeological place. A name remembered from a film may open the door to its actual history. But the plot of a film is not a scientific account of the site.
Reading the site in context
ArkeoExpo’s existing series introduces Tanis through the ancient city in the northeastern Nile Delta and its royal tombs. Understanding the site means looking beyond a single cover image and connecting finds with sources.
What a photograph does—and does not—show
A photograph records the surface of a place, not its entire history. The function of a building, the origin of its stone or the context of a find require further investigation. Visual narratives should therefore be read alongside explanations and source notes.

After this brief introduction, continue with the more detailed Tanis account in the series linked below. The cinematic cover is not a personal field photograph or archaeological evidence.
